Counselling for adults wishing to explore their difficulties and challenges in a warm, safe and non-judgmental space.
My approach to counselling is Humanistic and Integrative. I believe the client is the expert on themselves having travelled their unique journey in life.
I draw on various counselling and psychotherapy techniques and theoretical models, such as Person-Centred, Existential, CBT, Psychodynamic, Compassion Focussed and others, to support and empower clients in dealing with their individual concerns and difficulties, and ultimately to increase their self-awareness and resilience.
My work as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist is underpinned and complemented by an approach which supports the creation of a strong, though gentle, collaborative therapeutic relationship with clients, in a calm, safe and non-judgemental space.
Making the decision to see a counsellor is a big step to take - but it can be a positive one. Please read on to find out more about how I could help you.
I have a deep belief in talking therapy as a gift we can give to ourselves, at many times, through the journey of life.
My aim is to create an environment where clients feel they can be themselves in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space.
I am a qualified professional who holds a BSc(Hons) in Counselling & Psychotherapy from Middlesex University and PCI College.
I also hold a BSc (Hons) from Trinity College Dublin and have worked for over 25 years in the healthcare field as a Senior Speech & Language Therapist. My commitment and dedication to working with young people and their families led to my interest in pursuing further studies and qualifications in the profession of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I have a strong commitment to continuous training and development. Areas of particular interest include; matrescence, parenting and relationships, disability, neurodivergence, grief, anxiety, depression, loneliness, gender and diversity. I have developed and led groups to support transitions in life over the years and I enjoy creating and engaging in small, intimate group work.
As a fully-qualified counsellor, I work with people from all walks of life and backgrounds who seek support for themselves. As a pre-accredited member of The Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), I am committed to upholding high standards in my practice. I also hold additional membership with other professional bodies such as The Irish Association of Speech & Language Therapists (IASLT), Intermediaries for Justice (IFJ) and CORU, responsible for Regulating Health & Social Care Professionals.
People come to me for help a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common challenges that can be supported through counselling:
Anxiety and Stress; excessive worrying difficulties that you may be experiencing relating to parts of your life
Sadness; coping with loss, illness, grief and depression
Transitions; becoming a parent, moving to a new area, disability in your life
Anger management
Difficulties at work or in retirement
Interpersonal problems; such as difficulties in relationships with a partner, family, school, work and social life
Self-esteem; liking yourself better and understanding yourself
Matresence; the process and journey of becoming a mother
Issues relating to sexuality
I have a dual qualification (Speech & Language Therapist, Counsellor & Psychotherapist) and many years experience as a therapist working with parents and their new baby. "Coming to Know Your Baby" is a challenge for most new parents and it is one of the greatest transitions you will ever go through - the birth of the baby and the birth of the parent. In this time of transition, a whole range of emotions are expected and felt. I remember wishing for a manual to help guide me when my own children were born. The unknown can feel overwhelming. Perhaps years ago there was more of a village, a community of others who may have been more present and available to guide and support the new parent and baby. For many of us, this landscape looks different. Today, there is much more known about babies and how best to nurture them to grow, develop and thrive in the early weeks and months of life and beyond. I am here to guide and support you in coming to know your baby.
What you will learn about:
During our time together, the information shared will have a focus on coming to understand your baby’s brain development through the first few months of life. There is a focus on becoming attuned to your baby and having a greater sense of how to listen to them, and respond to them with emerging confidence and compassion. Using accredited and evidence-based approaches in infant mental health, you will have a greater understanding of your baby’s signals and emotional development in these crucial early days, weeks and months.
I will help you to understand the vital role you have in developing the connections in your baby’s brain. This lays the foundation for emotional wellbeing and the way emotions will be handled in later life.
This is an area that I have a wealth of experience in as a mother and as a therapist. I have worked with families, supporting them in coming to know their baby (and older children too!), for over twenty years. As a speech and language therapist, it has been my honour to support parents in coming to know their new person. Parent- Child relationships, infant mental health and maternal health continues to be an area I am passionate about contributing to and am deeply interested in. I work from a compassion focussed base. My focus is on empowering you in coming to know your baby.
